Because the SS solid square bar is squared in terms of its shape, most manufacturers find it easy to form. Moreover, the good formability properties of very commonly used alloys such as grade 304 and grade 316 in combination with its shape lead to the SS 304 Square Bar being one of the most used decorative materials amongst SS grades.
However, in those areas where the rate of corrosion is rather rampant, ie. could be due to the presence of moisture or other corrosives, SS CR Square bar suppliers often suggest grade 316 to their clients for these applications on account of its superior corrosion resistance properties. If required the SS 316 square bar manufacturer could also finish these bars by surface treatment, either in the form of polishing or in the form of electroplating. Both these techniques form a barrier on the surface of the square bar, thus preventing corrosion. For instance, a Polished SS Square Bar would have an improved appearance and consistency. This, in turn, would simplify cleaning and facilitates ease in fabrication as well as repair/blend after welding along with being able to mask minor damage. On the other hand, electroplating forms an external layer on the surface of the far, thus preventing corrosion by oxidation or by other sources.

Calculating the weight of a solid square bar can be divided into two parts. First, one has to find out the volume of the bar. The dimensions required for the volume of the stainless steel would be its height, width and length. The equation to calculate the volume is as follows -
Volume = L X W X H
L indicates the length of the pipe, W stands for its width while H stands for its height. Once the volume of the stainless steel has been calculated, the next step would be obtaining the density. Being a metal that is alloyed with different elements in various combinations, the density of stainless steel would vary. For instance, the density of stainless steel grade 304 is placed at 7.90 g/cm3, while the density of alloy 904L is approx 7.95 g/cm3. On the other hand, the density of stainless steel alloy 317 is approximately 7.89 g/cm3. Once you have the density value of the alloy you are to find out the weight for, you can use the equation below.
Weight = Density x Volume.
Or another way to calculate the weight of stainless steel grade 317 whose density is 7.89 g/cm3 in the metric system, we could do so by substituting the values.
Weight = 7.89 g/cm3 (density) x 10 m2 (Thickness) x 1 m/1000 (Length/1000)
Hence the weight of grade 317 stainless steel is 0.789 Kg.
